Context:
As per the QS World University Rankings 2026, three institutions from Telangana have secured places in the global rankings — a notable academic achievement for the state.
Ranked Institutions from Telangana:
• IIT Hyderabad (IITH): Improved its ranking significantly, moving up to 664th position from last year’s 681-690 range.
• Hyderabad Central University (HCU): Ranked in the 801-850 points category.
• Osmania University (OU): Maintained its position in the 1201-1400 points range.
Indian Institutions:
• India achieved its best-ever performance in the QS World University Rankings 2026, with 54 universities making the list — up from 11 in 2015, marking a 5-fold increase in just over a decade., with 41% of ranked Indian institutions improving their position.
• India is now the 4th most represented country, after the USA (192), UK (90), and China (72).
• The rankings were based on data from 16 million+ academic papers and feedback from over 151,000 academics and 100,000 employers.
Highlights for India:
• 12 IITs featured, showcasing strong technical education infrastructure.
• 6 Indian institutions are ranked in the global top 250.
• IIT Delhi leads Indian institutes at 123rd (up from 150th).
• IIT Madras recorded a major jump to 180th (from 227th).
• 8 new Indian universities debuted, the highest from any country.
• Note: IIIT-Hyderabad and NIT-Warangal were not among the ranked institutions.
